Waterbury’s Christiano Clinches Victory at the 39th Pat Griskus Sprint Triathlon
Waterbury native Christopher Christiano, a 22-year-old former Holy Cross High athlete, triumphed in the 39th annual Pat Griskus Sprint Triathlon held on Saturday at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury. Competing in a challenging course featuring a half-mile swim, a 12.5-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile run, Christiano finished in an impressive time of 1:11:06.86.
A graduate of Holy Cross High School in 2020 and Mount Saint Mary College in 2024, Christiano is now advancing his career as a graduate student in the physical therapy program at the University of Hartford. This victory marks his breakthrough in triathlon racing, seamlessly transitioning from his days as a cross country and track competitor.
Close on his heels was Thomas Feeney from Skaneateles, N.Y., who completed the race in 1:13:09.96. The top female finisher, Krista Cattanauch of Glastonbury, crossed the line with a time of 1:38:17.55. In addition, the Olympic Distance race saw Nick Menendez of Avon leading the field with 2:03:22.21, followed by Mitch West of Wilton at 2:11:24.39. In the Olympic Duathlon, Brad Bischoff of Newton, N.J., recorded a winning time of 2:05:58.67, with Stephen Long of Cheshire finishing in 2:23:37.53.
This latest edition of the triathlon event underscores the increasing appeal of multi-sport competitions and highlights the impressive versatility athletes are achieving by branching out beyond traditional track and field disciplines.
