Tennessee Pastor Brian Bartlett Sr. Dies in Fatal Car Crash

Milwaukee Man Faces Charges in Hit-and-Run Tragedy

A man from Milwaukee has been formally charged following a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old pastor’s wife and left her grandson injured. Authorities report that Donte Miller, 30, fled the scene after his speeding vehicle collided with the victims’ SUV.

Miller now faces charges including second-degree reckless homicide and a hit-and-run offense causing death, among other related counts. During his recent court appearance, a bond of $150,000 was set and a competency evaluation was ordered.

Details of the Crash

The collision occurred on January 4 near the intersection of 34th and Lloyd in Milwaukee. At the time, Beverly Fair and her grandson had just departed from a family member’s residence when a fast-moving vehicle struck their SUV. Fair later succumbed to her injuries, while her grandson, Jordan, was hospitalized.

Jordan’s mother, Shyla Deacon—also the daughter of the deceased—remarked on her son’s survival, describing it as nothing short of a miracle given the severity of the accident.

Investigation and Evidence

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office noted that the vehicle responsible was traveling between 60 and 80 miles per hour in a residential area. Surveillance footage captured the moment of impact, showing one vehicle veering into a nearby front yard as debris scattered across the street and onto an adjacent porch.

According to a criminal complaint, officers initially observed a speeding car near 35th and Vine with a missing front license plate. They activated emergency lights and pursued the vehicle, but briefly lost visual contact. When they returned to the scene, they found that the car had collided with Fair’s SUV. The driver abandoned the vehicle on foot, leaving it running with the keys in the ignition and a cellphone inside.

Further investigation revealed that the car displayed a Minnesota license plate that was not registered to it, and a VIN check connected the vehicle to Miller. Authorities also discovered that Miller had been a person of interest in an earlier police pursuit in 2023.

A search of Miller’s apartment produced documents and paperwork related to the vehicle, and DNA evidence collected from the car confirmed his involvement. Additionally, records showed that Miller had been driving without a valid license, as his driving privileges had been suspended since September 2024 following a similar incident in 2022.
