TD Jakes Passes Leadership of The Potter’s House to His Daughter and Son-in-Law
In a momentous ceremony marking a new era, Sarah Jakes Roberts and her husband, Touré Roberts, have been named co-senior pastors of the Dallas megachurch. This historic transition, witnessed during a packed Sunday service, signals a fresh chapter for the congregation founded nearly 30 years ago by Bishop T.D. Jakes.

Cindy Trimm, founder of a well-known ministry, delivered the sermon titled “The Last Sermon: Leadership Redefined.” Speaking from the book of Deuteronomy, she paid tribute to Bishop Jakes for his far-reaching impact in ministry, philanthropy, and media, while also honoring Sereta Jakes for her unwavering support. Trimm commended Sarah Jakes Roberts for her candid vulnerability and Touré Roberts for his visionary capacity to build and lead.
As the ceremony culminated, the new pastors knelt for a final blessing from Bishop Jakes. With an anointing of oil and the draping of white stoles, Jakes emphasized the call to service by reminding them that true leadership is measured by one’s willingness to serve others. In a symbolic gesture, he passed his own stole to Touré Roberts, underscoring the continuity and expansion of the ministry’s legacy.
At 68, Bishop Jakes will continue his role as chairman of the T.D. Jakes Group, overseeing a broad portfolio that includes his foundation, real estate ventures, and a social impact enterprise. Reflecting on nearly five decades of ministry, he noted his ongoing commitment to addressing today’s pressing challenges—ranging from economic empowerment and social unrest to bridging opportunity gaps within the community.
