Rallying Allies: An Open Call for Action.

Standing Together in Uncertain Times

I feel unsafe in the country where I was born. Even as I attend Jewish gatherings—whose locations are kept secret until the last moment, guarded by armed individuals, and accessible only to those who have confirmed their attendance—the precautions do little more than remind me that danger is always near. I continue to meet in community because the strength of standing together is greater than the grip of fear, even though it rarely dispels it completely. We persist simply because our very identity makes us a target.

The Normalization of Hate and Its Toll

Every day, extremist acts against Jews are minimized, excused, or easily forgotten while life for many goes on without worry. It has become common for people to ignore the silent warning that our lives are at risk. We are left to fend for ourselves as antisemitism is not only widely accepted but is even celebrated in some circles. The rhetoric of politics often disguises these acts of hate as something else entirely, yet the stark reality remains that the threat to our community is real and growing.

A Call to Augment Our Ranks

I have absolute faith in our community’s resilience, but strength requires increasing our numbers. I am reaching out to anyone who reads these words—whether or not we know each other personally—to take a stand against Jew-hate. Small acts of support can make a difference, signaling to those who feel isolated that they are not alone. Such solidarity might be what comforts a Jewish child who, repeatedly, asks in confusion why this hatred exists without cause.

Reflections on Legacy and the Lessons for Our Children

Every Jewish child eventually asks a heartbreaking question: “Why are we hated?” Explaining this mystery to a young mind is nearly impossible, and even as adults, the question lingers without a satisfactory answer. We are exhausted from having to justify our very existence and our right to live without undue terror. Yet, the message of our enduring humanity still needs to be clearly and loudly conveyed.

I often think of my grandparents who fled hardships in pursuit of safety and a new beginning. My own name has become both a proud symbol of my heritage and, unfortunately, a source of vulnerability in a hostile world. While I have taken steps to protect my privacy in everyday situations, I refuse to vanish into the background. Instead, I stand in plain sight, urging all those who can to help ensure that our community is seen and supported.

The Urgency of Collective Action

Every day seems to bring another reminder that our safety is compromised. I am not asking for a dramatic intervention, but simply for even a slight public show of support—be it through a supportive message or a small act that signals we are not powerless. Many may view the fight against hate as too complex or too political to join, yet I remain convinced that even a few brave allies can begin to shift the tide.

Our children deserve a world where the question “Why do they hate us?” no longer echoes in their hearts. They deserve to see that there are people willing to stand up for their right to live without constant dread. The time to act is now—before our numbers dwindle further and the silence of indifference becomes deafening.

This is a call for anyone willing to speak out on behalf of all of us. Let us raise our voices together, not merely to protest the darkness, but to affirm our right to life, dignity, and solidarity. Who among you is ready to join us in shaping a safer, kinder world for everyone?
