How Actor Jonathan Roumie Prepared to Embody Jesus in The Chosen
The 51‐year‐old performer has concentrated on steady walking and specialized back exercises to shape his body in a way that reflects the timeless image of Jesus. Rather than engaging in high-intensity cardio, Roumie focused on simply accumulating a solid number of daily steps—aiming for at least 10,000—to maintain his routine.
In collaboration with personal trainer Braden Morrow of Iron Faith Fitness, Roumie developed an adaptable training program. This plan was tailored to build a stronger back and accommodate the challenges of exercising in hotel gyms with limited equipment. Over the course of a year, Roumie managed to drop between 20 and 25 pounds while achieving the desired muscular definition.
Highlighting his philosophy that the body is a sacred temple, Roumie explained that his dedication to fitness was an essential part of preparing himself physically and spiritually for his role.
