At a recent event in Bengaluru, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot underscored the pivotal role of innovation in forging a self-reliant India and pursuing global leadership. Speaking at the launch of the national campaign “Innovasthan – a Vichar to Vikas Yatra,” the Governor highlighted how creativity and technological advancements are critical to sustainable development.

Progress on the Global Stage

The campaign, organized by the Council for Industrial and Innovation Research (CIIR) and a reputed deemed university, showcased India’s significant leap in the Global Innovation Index – moving from the 81st position in 2015 to the 40th rank in 2023. This remarkable progress reflects the country’s commitment to nurturing innovation across all sectors.

Embracing Indigenous Initiatives

Governor Gehlot lauded flagship initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” emphasizing that these programs have laid a strong foundation for domestic innovation. He pointed out that managing intellectual property (IP) effectively is key to sustaining this momentum. The Governor specifically noted Karnataka’s achievement of over 6,500 patent filings during 2022–23 as a benchmark that educational institutions and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) should strive to emulate.

Innovation in Every Sphere

According to the Governor, innovation should extend beyond technology and industry. It must be deeply integrated into education, policy-making, and community life. By fostering a culture of innovation at every level, India can secure a more resilient and forward-looking future.
