At Least 13 Israelis Killed, Hundreds Injured in Deadliest Missile Night

An Iranian ballistic missile struck a 10-story residential building in Bat Yam, just south of Tel Aviv, amid a series of attacks on Israel last night. The impact took the lives of six individuals, including children, and left seven people unaccounted for amid extensive rubble removal efforts.

Extensive Damage in Bat Yam and Beyond

The missile that hit Bat Yam was part of the second wave of launches from Iran on Saturday night. Sirens sounded throughout central Israel as munitions impacted locations including Bat Yam, Rehovot, and Ramat Gan. In Bat Yam, six lives were lost — a 60-year-old woman, a 70-year-old man, a 55-year-old woman, a 10-year-old boy, an 8-year-old girl, and an 18-year-old young man. In addition to the fatalities, seven persons remain missing and hundreds are reported injured.

The Wolfson Hospital has been treating dozens injured by the missile strike. Bat Yam’s mayor, Zvika Brot, quickly arrived at the scene to help emergency personnel search for survivors. He described the destruction, explaining that a central building and several surrounding structures sustained heavy damage. After the initial moments of shock, injured survivors began emerging from the debris, while those in designated protective shelters emerged with minimal injuries.

Wider Impact on Israel’s Institutions and Communities

The attacks also affected critical infrastructures. Several buildings at the Weizmann Institute of Science suffered damage, and one of its laboratories reportedly caught fire due to the incident. In a statement, the institute confirmed the damage while assuring that no casualties occurred and that they are closely coordinating with security and emergency teams to safeguard the campus and its employees.

Major General Rafi Milo, head of the IDF Home Front Command, emphasized the incident’s grim reminder about the importance of adhering to safety guidelines during such attacks.

In the city of Rehovot, a missile strike injured 28 people, with two sustaining serious wounds. Among those taken to the Kaplan Medical Center were at least four children.

Earlier, a separate barrage targeting Haifa Bay had claimed the lives of four women. The victims included one woman along with her two daughters and a close relative. The missile struck the three-story residence in the Arab town of Tamra shortly after 11 p.m. during an initial missile attack aimed at regional oil and gas infrastructures.

In retaliation to the missile strikes, Israeli Air Force jets targeted oil installations at the South Pars gas field, one of the world’s largest, leading to a partial shutdown of this critical facility.
