TD Jakes Passes Leadership of The Potter’s House to His Daughter

TD Jakes Entrusts The Potter’s House to His Daughter and Son-in-Law

In a watershed moment for the Dallas megachurch, Bishop T.D. Jakes formally entrusted leadership of The Potter’s House to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts, during a fully attended Sunday service. This event marks a significant milestone for the congregation that Bishop Jakes established nearly 30 years ago.

During the ceremony, the church shared that a powerful legacy was passed on and a new future was set in motion. The leadership handover was described as a sacred moment where a mantle of sacrifice and purpose was deliberately transferred to the next generation.

A Historic Transition

The leadership change had been announced earlier in the year, with Bishop Jakes expressing full confidence in the couple’s capabilities to lead the congregation. He had previously told his followers that it was time to release the new pastors, urging them to embrace the fresh direction as part of God’s unfolding plan.

The extensive installation service, which coincided with the church’s 29th anniversary, lasted nearly four hours. The auditorium, which accommodates approximately 7,600 individuals, was filled to capacity with members eager to witness this defining moment.

Prominent minister Cindy Trimm, who delivered a sermon titled “The Last Sermon: Leadership Redefined,” highlighted the significance of the day. Speaking from the book of Deuteronomy, she commended Bishop Jakes for his enduring influence in ministry, philanthropy, and media, while also recognizing Sereta Jakes as the steadfast support behind the bishop. Trimm praised Sarah for her honesty and Touré for his vision and drive, emphasizing that this day reshaped what leadership means for the future.

A Ritual of Blessing

At the close of the service, the new pastors knelt before their parents for a final blessing. Bishop Jakes reminded them that the true essence of Jesus’ mission was to serve others. With oil, he anointed their heads, ears, and hands while draping them with white stoles that symbolized the church’s legacy. In a poignant gesture, he removed his own stole and placed it on Touré Roberts as an emblem of continuity.

With a final charge and amidst a roar of applause, the new co-senior pastors were welcomed by the congregation. Sarah Jakes Roberts energetically rallied everyone, asking if they were ready to manifest glory on Earth.

Bishop Jakes’ Continuing Vision

Bishop Jakes, now 68, will remain at the helm of the T.D. Jakes Group, overseeing various initiatives including his foundation, real estate projects, and a social impact company. Reflecting on his nearly 50-year career, he spoke of his duty to address contemporary challenges such as the economic struggles of the middle class and social disparities.

He described this leadership handover not as an end but as an evolution—a rebirth of ministry that honors the church’s past while expanding its impact for the future. According to him, this transition represents a multiplication of influence and a dynamic shift in leadership that will continue to adapt to the needs of the times.
