Christian Girl Kidnapped at Gunpoint Escapes Abductor

Kidnapped Christian Girl Escapes After Two Years of Captivity

A young Christian girl in Pakistan managed to flee the home of a man who had abducted her by force, enduring nearly two years of torment during which she was forcibly converted and subjected to repeated abuse.

The Abduction and Forced Conversion

The ordeal began on the night of May 24, 2023, when 14‐year‐old Muskan Liaqat was taken at gunpoint from her home in Muridke, located in the Sheikhupura District. Her captors, a man named Muhammad Adnan and his father Muhammad Arif, invaded the sleeping household and later declared that she had been converted to Islam, even insisting that she now belonged to Adnan as his wife.

Enduring Daily Abuse and Harrowing Terror

During her captivity, Muskan was subjected to repeated sexual violence and brutal physical assaults. She recalls being beaten almost every day with an iron rod while being insulted with degrading slurs typically aimed at Christians. The relentless abuse even led to an unwanted pregnancy in 2024, which ended in a miscarriage due to the severe violence she experienced. The pain and isolation eventually drove her to attempt suicide, as she grappled with feelings of despair and the fear that her family might not believe her story upon her return.

The Desperate Cry for Help and the Struggle for Justice

On May 26, Muskan finally managed to contact her older sister, revealing her location and naming her captors. However, once her family sought legal action, Adnan and his father threatened to harm both her and her loved ones if she did not provide a false statement. Under intense pressure, she recounted that she had willingly converted to Islam and married Adnan, although her heart remained with her family.

Her family’s attempts to secure her release through the courts only resulted in further brutal violence. Adnan used an iron rod to fracture her arm and inflict additional injuries while she was being forced to comply with his demands. Amidst this cycle of abuse, Muskan’s hope finally emerged on June 3 when her captor left her unattended, allowing her to make her escape.

Efforts by Community Support and Legal Advocacy

After her escape, Muskan was taken to a safe house managed by a local organization dedicated to aiding Christian women and girls. With her family suffering both emotionally and financially—her father having fallen ill in the aftermath—this group promptly intervened to provide her with legal, medical, and psychological support. The legal team swiftly initiated criminal proceedings against Adnan, determined to prosecute everyone involved in the abduction, abuse, and subsequent falsification of her conversion to Islam.

Advocates warn that incidents like Muskan’s are not uncommon in the region, where young girls are often abducted, forced into a conversion under Islamic “marriages,” and coerced into recording statements that favor their abusers. Despite the challenges and the dismissive attitude of local law enforcement in previous cases, efforts continue to secure justice for the victims and to safeguard them from further exploitation.

Looking Ahead

While Muskan faces a long road to recovery from the immense physical and psychological trauma she has endured, her escape offers a glimmer of hope. Authorities and support organizations remain committed to pursuing accountability and ensuring that her experience is neither forgotten nor repeated. The case underscores the urgent need for reform in protecting vulnerable communities, especially in regions where religious and social tensions exacerbate such human rights violations.
