Protest Erupts Over Former Pastor’s Resignation
Some members of New Life Church in Colorado Springs rallied outside the place of worship one Sunday following a decision by the church elders to ask longtime senior pastor Brady Boyd to step down. The board claimed that Boyd had provided inaccurate details regarding his awareness of past allegations involving a former church leader and contentious events dating back several decades.

Supporters Defend Longtime Leadership
Long-time church member Angie Ragsdale, who has attended New Life for over 27 years, argued that Boyd’s removal was unfair. She described him as a dedicated, upstanding man of God who had served the congregation for 18 years. Ragsdale maintained that Boyd should not have been forced out over issues stemming from events long past. Similarly, another protester, Joan Mills, recognized the significant contributions Boyd made to both the church community and the broader Colorado region. Although Mills conceded that Boyd admitted to misplaced trust in a previous leader, she questioned the fairness of linking his career to events that had been resolved years ago.
Leadership History and Background
Boyd assumed the role of senior pastor in 2007, inheriting leadership after the controversial departure of his predecessor amid scandals. In preparing for his appointment, the church’s search committee learned of past allegations involving another pastor at Gateway Church. Despite these revelations, the committee concluded that while the earlier misconduct was indeed grave, it did not compromise Boyd’s qualifications for ministry. For nearly two decades, Boyd led New Life Church until recent developments prompted a reassessment of his public statements.
Breach of Trust and Recent Developments
Church elders noted that Boyd had recently made claims asserting that he was unaware of certain troubling details until a later date—a statement they now consider to be inaccurate. While they emphasized that Boyd had no direct involvement in the earlier incidents, the discrepancy in his account was seen as a breach of the trust essential to effective leadership. As a result, the board determined that his credibility and ability to lead were compromised, leading to his resignation.
Accusations of Manipulative Behavior
A former member of Boyd’s security team, who worked closely with him for more than a decade before leaving in 2018, later described Boyd as a master manipulator on social media. The former team member recounted his experience of witnessing a persistent pattern of twisted narratives and a tendency to portray himself as the perennial victim, behaviors which ultimately contributed to his decision to step away.
A Wider Context of Controversy
The situation is set against a broader backdrop of unresolved tensions within the church community. Earlier legal actions concerning allegations of historic abuse have added to the discord. In related litigation, a claimant—alleging that mischaracterizations were made about a past abuse incident involving a young individual—sued church leadership for defamation. Such controversies have ignited debates about accountability, transparency, and trust in church leadership that continue to resonate among members.
