Studies reveal Christianity’s waning influence both globally and in Alabama

Global Religious Trends: Shifts in Faith Demographics

A recent study by a prominent research center indicates that Christianity recorded an increase of 122 million adherents between 2010 and 2020. Despite this growth, the findings show that Christianity did not expand as robustly as other demographics globally.

During the same period, Islam experienced a surge of 347 million followers, while the number of people identifying with no religious affiliation grew by approximately 270 million. These figures highlight a dynamic and evolving religious landscape around the world, suggesting significant demographic shifts over the past decade.

The research offers a broad perspective on the future influence of various faith communities, indicating that while Christianity maintains a substantial presence, other groups are rapidly expanding and reshaping global religiosity.
