Early Beginnings
At just 18 years old in the summer of 2012, Charlie Kirk walked into a local Starbucks in the Chicago suburbs, casually setting down his backpack as he began to map out his future. Fresh out of high school and pondering his next moves after an unsuccessful application to the U.S. Military Academy, he found himself drawn into a meeting with an Illinois-based group. This organization, known as Patriots United, was focused on issues such as reducing taxes and expanding parental choice in education during the height of the Tea Party movement.
Foundations of Faith
During that early encounter, discussions naturally shifted toward the mutual Christian principles that the group valued. Maida Korte, a 71-year-old leader within Patriots United, recalled how their conversations consistently returned to these foundational beliefs—demonstrating a clear connection between faith and the political issues they championed.
