I Never Expected to Yearn for the Old Conservative Christian Movement
Growing up, the force of the Christian right felt like an unyielding adversary. Today, I find myself quietly wishing for a return to its once-commonplace presence.
As a child of the 1990s raised in the conservative suburbs north of Atlanta, attending church on Sunday mornings was simply part of life—often followed by a visit to a local eatery afterward, embracing traditions as faithfully as one might observe a sacred day of rest.
Although my upbringing was within the Muslim faith, my parents chose the best available early education, which happened to be run by Baptists. My first encounters with the Christian right were not gentle: When a simple Halloween coloring book was taken away for being “sinful,” I was overwhelmed with tears at a tender age.

Rockin’ the faith, one verse at a time!
