Brazilian Flavors Come to West Hartford

Priscilla Pedrosa’s passion for chocolate dates back to her childhood, when she would craft sweet treats like bon bons for classmates at the age of 12. Growing up in modest circumstances, she recalls how her homemade confections became so popular that neighbors would eagerly line up outside her home.

A Journey Fueled by Family Support

Even as Pedrosa balanced a house-cleaning job, she continued to perfect her chocolate recipes. With the unwavering support of her husband—who even built a kitchen in their basement—her hobby evolved into a promising business venture. A chance meeting arranged by her husband with the former owner of Edible Arrangements at 282 Park Road paved the way for a major career shift.

On May 30, Pedrosa held a soft opening for her new shop, Choccodiva Confections. The name was inspired by a friend’s playful remark, dubbing her “the diva of chocolate.”

A Unique Twist on Classic Treats

At Choccodiva, visitors can indulge in an array of chocolate desserts, cakes, cake pops, lollipops, honey bread, and even a special offering called Dubai chocolate. Alongside these sweet treats, the shop will soon feature a selection of handcrafted ice cream and freshly brewed coffee. With the exception of using a tempering machine for the chocolate, Pedrosa prepares all items by hand each day, using as few additives and artificial colors as possible.

What truly sets Choccodiva apart is its Brazilian influence. Central to her menu is the brigadeiro—a beloved Brazilian dessert made by cooking condensed milk, dark chocolate, and a touch of butter. After the mixture reaches a boil and cools down, it is rolled into soft, truffle-like balls that are then dusted with a variety of toppings, such as mini candy pieces, coconut flakes, or strawberry-flavored shavings. Pedrosa creatively incorporates brigadeiro into many of her desserts, even using it as a coating for cake pops and as an extra layer in her Dubai chocolate.

Gratitude and Community Welcome

Since opening her doors, Pedrosa has been overwhelmed by the warm response from customers. “It’s something I had been praying for. I just thank God for everything,” she shared, noting that the turnout far exceeded her expectations.

Choccodiva Confections welcomes guests Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
