Brazilian Flavors in West Hartford
At just 12 years old, Priscilla Pedrosa discovered her passion for chocolate by crafting bon bons to sell at school. Growing up in modest circumstances, she found creative ways to share her treats with neighbors—even when resources were scarce. “My father didn’t have much money,” she recalls, noting how her early confections quickly won over local fans.
A Journey from Hobby to Business
As the years passed, Pedrosa continued to perfect her chocolate desserts while working as a housekeeper. With the steadfast support of her husband—who even built a dedicated kitchen in their basement—her hobby evolved into a promising career. A surprising opportunity came when her husband arranged a meeting with the former owner of a local dessert shop, opening the door to turning her passion into a full-time venture.
Introducing Choccodiva Confections
On May 30, Pedrosa celebrated the soft opening of her new shop, Choccodiva Confections, located at 282 Park Road in West Hartford. The playful name was inspired by a friend’s nickname for her: “the diva of chocolate.” This establishment brings a unique Brazilian flair to traditional chocolate treats.
Among the delights on offer, one item stands out: brigadeiro, a classic Brazilian dessert. Made from condensed milk, dark chocolate, and a touch of butter, the mixture is cooked to a boil before being cooled and rolled into soft, truffle-like balls. These are then dusted with toppings ranging from mini candies to coconut flakes and strawberry shavings. Pedrosa incorporates brigadeiro into nearly every dessert, using it to coat cake pops and enhance other confections such as her signature Dubai chocolate.
Handcrafted Excellence
Every treat at Choccodiva is made fresh daily. With the exception of a specialized machine for tempering chocolate, each dessert is lovingly prepared by hand—ensuring minimal use of colorings and no preservatives. Alongside an array of cakes, cake pops, lollipops, honey bread, and Dubai chocolate, the shop also offers an assortment of ice cream and coffee, broadening its appeal to every sweet-tooth visitor.
A Bright Future Sweetened with Gratitude
Since opening her doors, Pedrosa has welcomed a steady stream of customers, an experience she describes as both unexpected and exhilarating. “It’s something that I had been praying for. I just thank God for everything,” she shares. Her heartfelt gratitude resonates with the community that has embraced this new hub of chocolate creativity.
Choccodiva Confections welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This local gem continues to weave cultural tradition with innovative desserts, offering the people of West Hartford a delectable taste of Brazil.
