Faith groups deliver Bibles in 22 languages to children with disabilities

Ministries Unite to Deliver Scriptures to Disabled Children in Multiple Languages

A new collaboration between two leading international Christian ministries is set to distribute more than 87,000 Bibles in 22 different languages to families receiving free surgical care at children’s hospitals across Africa and the Philippines. This initiative is a joint effort by the Christian nonprofit focused on providing medical care and the global ministry dedicated to ensuring that people around the world can read God’s word in their own language.

The network of pediatric hospitals, which offers treatment at no charge for children with conditions such as spina bifida, hydrocephalus, and other treatable disabilities, serves not only to heal physically but also to provide spiritual encouragement. Since its inception in 1996, the medical ministry has performed over 330,000 surgeries and reached millions with the Gospel message.

Balancing Medical Expertise with Spiritual Care

Justin Narducci, the president and CEO of the medical ministry, emphasized the organization’s commitment to combining high-caliber surgical care with intentional spiritual outreach. He explained that the founders of the ministry were inspired by the biblical mandate to spread God’s word and heal the sick—a dual mission highlighted in a key passage where Jesus empowers his disciples to heal and share the Good News.

Narducci noted that while their network employs 60 surgeons who handle complex disabilities daily, their work extends beyond medical procedures. “Quality healthcare is a vital part of our Gospel witness, especially when it provides care that these children cannot find elsewhere,” he stated.

This longstanding partnership with the ministry that distributes the Scriptures has been planned for years, with both organizations working through the logistics together. The collaboration is financially supported equally by donors of both ministries, with approximately $500,000 raised to cover shipping, distribution, and related expenses.

A Unified Mission

Geof Morin, the president and CEO of the Bible distribution ministry, remarked on the profound impact of partnering on this initiative. He explained that sharing life-changing Scriptures is a vital part of their mission, serving as a tangible expression of care and compassion for those in need. Morin expressed hope that the availability of these Bibles will offer comfort and renew faith for many during challenging times.

Earnest Kioko, the chief ministry officer in charge of the hospitals, highlighted that a significant portion of the population they serve now receives Scripture in their native language as a result of this collaboration. One of the ministry’s objectives is what Kioko described as “intentional spiritual ministry”—guiding children toward faith while they undergo medical treatment. Before discharge, patients participate in Bible studies and are connected with local community leaders who can offer ongoing spiritual support.

In some regions, particularly in parts of Africa, cultural beliefs sometimes label disabilities as a curse. Kioko recounted how many parents bring protective charms to the hospital, convinced that their child is subject to dark forces. With time and the visible success of the medical interventions, these families often begin to see that there is a power greater than they had believed in before, a realization that bridges both medical healing and spiritual transformation.

This comprehensive approach, blending world-class medical treatment with effective spiritual ministry, continues to challenge and change deep-seated cultural beliefs. By addressing both physical and spiritual needs, the ministries are making a lasting impact on the lives of countless families in need.
